Introduction

Performance of Gas Turbine (GT) power generating unit is affected by the environmental temperature ( Outdoor temp.) :

1- The decrease in outdoor temp increases the air density and therefore the heat content of air increased ; this leads to increase in power released from the same air flow which is withdrawn by the GT.

2- Beside the above performance improvement , the heat rate ( Fuel Consumption ) is also reduce  adding another benefit to the inlet air cooling .   


Gas Turbine Model PG9151 Made by AEG

The AEG GT model PG9151 was used in my study in 1993 to assess the improvement of adding a chiller to cool the hot air and operate it around the year..


 Dubai weather data was collected from Dubai Meteorological Office. The study used a mechanical cooling system (Chilled Water System) . The study estimated the benefits around the years to count for different inlet air temp . The financial data ( costs of fuel , chilled water cost rate,..) was used as per the prevailing market.

The study considered full span of 1hr to 22 hours of running the chilled water system. The study proposed some design parameters for the chiller size , chilled water pumps flows ,.. 

Dubai Energy demand management 2002

The study was recommended in 2002 and 2003 to the Executive Office , so that it is included within the strategy of Dubai Energy  Demand Management to reduce the Demand in Power by 30% withing 10 years plan ( 2002-2012 ).
